Scribd: Launches New Comic Section hits 1 million titles

Scribd, the digital library featuring the ebook and audiobook subscription service has launched a whole new comic section giving the users access to more than 10,000 comics and graphic novels, bringing its total title count to the 1 million mark. Scribd first offered its customers an unlimited access to an online library of popular titles on basis of a monthly subscription fee. Then it stretched its expansion for audio books last year November and now it unveiled its very new comic section partnered with some of the industry’s biggest publishers, including Marvel, Archie, Valiant, IDW and Arcana. The expansion brings the Scribd library to more than 1 million titles.

Scribd CEO Trip Adler said in a statement: “We are very excited to take this step in expanding our subscription service beyond books. This addition gives comics readers the freedom of unlimited reading, while also giving our ebook and audiobook lovers the opportunity to discover comics and graphic novels.”

As part of the $8.99 flat monthly fee, the subscribers will get access to classic comics like Alan Moore’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Avengers, X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man, Afterlife With Archie, March: Book 1 and lots many in addition to the vast collections of ebook and audiobooks offered by Scribd.

Readers will be able to search comics by characters, title, series, publishers or by curated collections such as “Welcome to Riverdale”, “Incredible Team-Ups” etc. Characters’ profile pages will be there that will contain minutiae about comic super heroes like Spider-Man and G.I. Joe. Scribd also features a “binge button” at the end of each comic that will help the user to pounce to the next title in the series.

This is Scribd’s most recent move to expand its library. Last year, it added more than 1000 book in the library partnered with Macmillam. The Scribd expansion is similar to Marvel’s own Marvel Unlimited service, which offers 15,000 comics for $9.99 per month. Marvel VP Daniele Campbell said “Our partnership with Scribd allows some of Marvel’s greatest stories to sit alongside Scribd’s already vast and eclectic catalog of content in an effort to reach readers who normally wouldn’t find themselves inside a comic shop.” And now thanks to Scribd subscription, they won’t have to. So, comic lovers it’s time to enjoy reading your comics at the fullest!!
