Losing any costly device is painful and if it’s a smartphone, the pain increases manifold times. This is because we store our personal data like pictures, videos, bank apps, passwords and many important document in a smartphone. So losing all these documents at one shot is no less than a mishap. So what’s the way we can try to recover our lost or stolen Android phones?

The first thing you need to do on losing any phone is make a police report. Now that you are trying to involve the police, you will be in contact with the law enforcement and carrier, the first thing they will ask is your IMEI number. What is an IMEI number? It is the acronym for International Mobile Security Equipment Identity. IMEI is an identification number which is unique to every hardware. This number will thus help in blacklisting the carrier or blocking the phone of it’s lost or stolen.

But what if you have not noted it down and lost the phone? There is still a way out if you have an Android set.

First log in to your Google Dashboard by going to http://www.google.com/settings. Then click the arrow next to Android.

You will find all devices that have been attached to your Google account. Now find out your phone and note down the IMEI number.

That’s all you can do for yourself and the rest it on police and the service providers.
