Coming January 20, the earthians will witness a full lunar eclipse and this eclipse will be the last total lunar eclipse until 2021. When the earth passes and comes in between the sun and the moon, the earth overshadows the moon and thus lunar eclipse takes place. However, this phenomenon is not a rare one as the last total lunar eclipse occurred in July 2018.

However, this lunar eclipse is extremely special and it is not just a total eclipse but it will be the super Blood Wolf Moon as well. Why the name is such? the nomenclature of moon is done maintaining certain rules, such as
the eclipse’s timing and the moon’s position relative to the Earth. Total lunar eclipse makes the moon look orangish red because of the earth’s reflected sunlight looks like that. Hence, the moon will be called blood.

Full moons that occur in January are called wolf moons. Every full moon on a particular month is given a particular name. For example, January moon is called wolf moon, Fabruary full moon is called snow moon, March full moon is called worm moon or crow moon, etc. The lunar eclipse of January 20, 2019 will bring the moon closer to the earth than usual, hence it has been coined the term super. So, together, the moon is super blood wolf moon  .

According to NASA , the eclipse will last for 1 hour and 2 minutes. On the US East Coast, the total eclipse will start at around 11:41 p.m. local time with a peak at 12:16 a.m. Lunar eclipse is not dangerous for the eyes like the solar eclipse and hence you can watch it without any special glasses.
