These Smart Devices will Bring Your House Into the 21st Century

Part of living in the 21st century is making peace with the fact that smart devices are an integral part of our day to day. We use smartphones for everything (and your teacher said you wouldn’t have a calculator on hand at all times!). Our cars can be connected to our phones to turn on and off. We can track our children’s whereabouts and so much more. So it should be no surprise that smart devices are being used inside the home to make our lives a little better.

What’s even better than making our lives better, smart devices in the home can even add some value to your home when you’re ready to put your house on the market  just like apartments for rent in Lansing. Heck, if you wanted to do that now, it’s the perfect time because Homelight’s 2021 Spring survey indicates that 97% of real estate agents say they’re experiencing a booming seller’s market!

Let’s take a look at the top smart devices you should have in your home.

1. Smart thermostats

If you want to save money on heating and cooling costs, smart thermostats can be a great device to have in your home. There are thermostats that allow you to customize the settings so that they adjust temperature depending on the time of day. However, smart thermostats can connect to your phone and you can control the temperature when you’re away.

2. Smart light bulbs

Light bulbs are one of those things that will stay in the home when you move out. If you use smart bulbs in your home and leave them for the new owner, they’ll be in for a great surprise (or you could factor the cost of the bulbs in with your asking price). There are many benefits to having smart light bulbs in your lighting fixtures. Some of those benefits include being able to connect to your smartphone, ability to change colors, and you could even play music through them via bluetooth.

3. Smart locks

You wouldn’t think that the lock on your door is anything to write home about, right? Well, smart locks are a great feature because you can check the lock when you’re away to make sure it’s locked. If you have guests coming over, you can unlock the door from your smartphone, which eliminates the need for a hide-a-key. Smart locks can also be used on all sorts of doors like the cabinet where you keep your cleaners or liquor, closet doors where you store Christmas gifts, and more.

4. Video doorbells

A video doorbell adds another layer of security on top of smart locks. These video doorbells will allow you to see and record whoever comes to your house, you can talk to check for solicitors or talk to guests to let them know you’ll be right there. A video doorbell can add value to your home but may also lower your homeowner’s insurance!

5. Smart plugs

Electronics that are plugged into smart plugs can be controlled by your phone, but you can also control them when you use a voice assistant like Alexa or Siri. You can turn the device on or off when you’re not home to give intruders the impression that you’re home. They’re also great for electronics that could be dangerous if they’re left on unattended like the coffee maker or iron.

Technology can get overwhelming at times but we have to admit that it makes life so much more convenient. You may not think you need a smart device in your home, but if you take the plunge and add one, two, or all of these devices… You might wonder how you were able to live without them!
