Twitter has been fighting hard to prevent the prying eyes of NSA but has failed many a times. It’s not just Twitter but several social networking sites are fighting for their rights for privacy against NSA. Recently, Twitter had no other option but to upgrade its privacy policy in order to shield the data of non-US users. So Twitter will shift tweets and other related data of non-US Twitter account holders under the management of Twitter International from May 18, 2015, which is based at Dublin, Ireland. The statement is as follows:
If you live outside the United States, our services are now provided to you by Twitter International Company, our company based in Dublin, Ireland. Twitter International Company will be responsible for handling your account information under Irish privacy and data protection law, which is based on the European Union’s Data Protection Directive.
If you live in the United States, the services will continue to be provided to you by Twitter, Inc., based in San Francisco, California, under United States law.
Several assumptions have been made regarding what data will be shifted. Twitter has not yet clearly mentioned it but just mentioned that the account information will be handled by Twitter International. We are still waiting for Twitter’s reply. Another source says, Twitter is taking this step in order to cut down the burden of taxes by updating the privacy policy and taking it under Ireland.
